Pursued by a pack of wolves, a couple of polar bears run breathlessly across the ice floe. They narrowly escape their pursuers, but the bear loses the cub she was about to give birth to. Mama bear is inconsolable, so the father breaks into a house and kidnaps an infant. He brings this little one back to his partner, who at first pretends to ignore him, then can't help but hold him against her to warm him. The baby has found a new mother... For many years, he will be raised like a cub, until his natural father finally finds him. Back among men, the child is unhappy. He begins to wish for the impossible: to become a bear.
