Film talk Animated cinema: a female perspective with Cécile Noesser
In this film talk, Cécile Noesser, a PhD in sociology specialising in animated cinema, invites us to discover how animated short films have fostered a culture in which women’s voices can be heard. The talk “Animated Cinema: A Female Perspective” explores the female gaze, the aesthetics of desire, and the relationship to the body.
This encounter is a deep dive into an art form where imagination becomes language, where drawing takes the floor, and where women’s voices open new horizons in the world of cinema.
Film talk Composing a film score with Pascal Le Pennec
A renowned composer, Pascal Le Pennec has worked with major figures of animated cinema such as Jean-François Laguionie and Michel Ocelot. Used to sharing the behind-the-scenes of his craft, he invites the audience to discover step by step how a film score is created. Two exceptional events at Cinéma Voltaire:
1 October, 9:30am–12:30pm: screening of Slocum et moi followed by the talk, Cinéma Voltaire.
2 October, 2pm: screening of Le tableau and a Q&A with the audience, Cinéma Voltaire.
A unique masterclass with Jérôme Rebotier
A talented composer, César-nominated for the score of Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, Jérôme Rebotier opens up the behind-the-scenes of his craft in a one-of-a-kind masterclass. Through his career and his creations, he will share his experience of composing for cinema, revealing the secrets of a music that gives flesh to images and intensity to emotions; a look at his work on the film’s score through exclusive excerpts.

Dive into the buzz of the World Village
The World Village is an invitation to travel the planet in a single place, meeting the cultures that shape it. It’s a living space where music, flavours, crafts and traditions cross paths — a vibrant crossroads of humanity and sharing.
This year, three flagship experiences bring the Village to life: a free-access virtual reality workshop with 15 headsets, two brand-new exhibitions to discover throughout the week, and convivial meals every evening (except Tuesday 30 September) to travel through flavours as well.

Animation workshop: Discovering pinscreen animation with Alexandre Noyer
Hailing from Annecy, Alexandre Noyer introduces both children and adults to the unique art of the pinscreen, a rare technique used to create genuine animated short films. All week, he will run workshops at the Médiathèque Le Châtelard for school groups. On Saturday 27 September, 9am to 12pm, a special workshop is open to everyone aged 7 and up (30 places available).
On the agenda:
1.5 hours of creation to make an animated short film using pinscreen animation, a poetic and playful technique accessible from age 6.
1.5 hours of screening of the film Léo l’inventeur by Pierre-Luc Granjon, to extend the cinematic experience.
This family workshop, free and open to everyone aged 6 and up, is offered by the Cultures & Cinémas association in partnership with the Médiathèque du Châtelard.
Wide-Angle Evenings
The Five Continents Film Festival doesn’t stop in October. In partnership with the Médiathèque du Châtelard, the Wide-Angle Evenings offer a chance to revisit award-winning films, discover hidden gems and meet local associations. These events extend the spirit of the Festival throughout the year, in the cinemas and media libraries of the Pays de Gex, to keep sharing cinema, fuelling conversation and bringing ideas to life together.
